On January 18th, 2022, SOFSA attended a launch event for the Double Up Food Bucks program at the Salt City Market location of the Syracuse Cooperative Market. We were joined by representatives from the American Heart Association, Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter’s office and staff from the Syracuse Cooperative Market.
The event began with Jeremy DeChario, General Manager for the Syracuse Cooperative Market, introducing the Double Up Food Bucks program. Jeremy highlighted how he is excited that instituting this program at the Syracuse Cooperative Market will offer local residents opportunities to spend their money on local produce.
The New York State Double Up Food Bucks program offers New York State residents who are on SNAP the opportunity to double up to $20 per day of purchases of fruits and vegetables. The Syracuse Cooperative Market is the newest participant in the program. Double Up Food Bucks are also accepted at the Brady Farm Stand, which operates on Saturday mornings at Brady Farm, June-October.
